Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research.

The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence and its focus is on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence. These values put patients at the heart of what we do and underpin the quality healthcare we would like for ourselves or a member of our family. Watch how we set out to deliver compassionate excellence via the OUH YouTube channel.

Many of our recruitment programmes use Value Based Interviewing to identify those who have the skills we seek, who share our values and who are able to deliver compassionate excellence from the outset. We know that this makes a significant difference to your job satisfaction and above all the outcomes and experience of our patients and their families.

Paediatric Diabetes Research Nurse

Paediatric Diabetes Research Nurse

Band 6 – Full or part-time

Fixed term contract for 12 months in the first instance with possible future extension dependant on funding

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a nurse to join our Paediatric Diabetes Research team. The team are involved in a number of diabetes clinical trials. The post offers an ideal opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic nurse with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills to pursue or develop a career in clinical research.

The role will involve working on a variety of Paediatric diabetes clinical trials. In the near future, we plan to be involved in some very exciting new national immunotherapy trials. These immunotherapy trials aim to reduce the damage to the insulin-making beta cells caused by the immune system in Type 1 newly-diagnosed children, thereby preserving the body’s ability to make its own insulin. If successful, certain therapies could also potentially be used to delay the onset of Type 1 diabetes in high risk individuals and hopefully eventually lead to prevention.

The successful candidate will be based at  Oxford Children’s  Hospital and will occasionally be  required to carry out study visits at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading and the Horton Hospital, Banbury, and carry out some home visits. They will collaborate with the clinical trials team and the wider multi-disciplinary team in the management of their own caseload of clinical trial patients, being responsible for recruitment, education and monitoring of study participants, the accurate collection and documentation of data and the collection of samples. A programme of training and education will support this work.
