The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research.

The Trust comprises of four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton Hospital in Banbury.

Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence and its focus is on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence. These values put patients at the heart of what we do and underpin the quality healthcare we would like for ourselves or a member of our family. Watch how we set out to deliver compassionate excellence via the OUH YouTube channel.

Many of our recruitment programmes use values-based interviewing to identify those who have the skills we seek, who share our values and who are able to deliver compassionate excellence from the outset. We know that this makes a significance difference to your job satisfaction and above all the outcomes and experience of our patients and their families.

The Oxford Kidney Unit (OKU) is seeking to appoint 3 consultant nephrologists:

  • Post 1 Replacement Post based at Milton Keynes Network Renal Unit (with 1 day per week in Oxford)
  • Post 2 Replacement post (with additional new 5 PA) based at Great Western Hospital Network Renal Unit
  • Post 3 New Post based in Oxford and Horton network renal units.

The Kidney unit at the Churchill Hospital comprises a 15 bed renal ward, 20 bed transplant ward, 6 bed day-case unit, 39 haemodialysis stations, and PD and specialist nursing teams. The OKU has 5 network units which are based in High Wycombe, Stoke Mandeville, Swindon, Milton Keynes and Banbury.

POST 1

This post is largely based at Milton Keynes hospital, with one day per week in Oxford. The Milton Keynes Network renal unit cares for 85 haemodialysis patients, 22 patients on home therapies. There is a busy outpatients department which runs both general nephrology and transplant follow up clinics. You will work alongside another nephrologist who has a shared GIM/Renal post and a nephrologist who supports clinics once a week.

POST 2

This post is largely based at Great Western hospital with one day per week in Oxford. The Swindon Network Renal Unit cares for 70 haemodialysis patients, 17 patients on home therapies. There is a busy outpatients department which runs both general nephrology and transplant follow up clinics. There is an element of ‘in reach’ that is delivered in this role, providing specialist renal advice to the medical and surgical teams at Great Western hospital. This is a 10PA post created with additional funding and will work alongside another consultant nephrologist based full time in Swindon.

POST 3

Is a reconfiguration following retirement of a Consultant Nephrologist. This post will be based in the Oxford Unit and have additional clinics in our about to expand Horton Dialysis Unit.
