A rewarding job and NO UNSOCIAL HOURS as a Nursing Assistant in Specialist Surgery Outpatients!

Our Ear, Nose and Throat, and Plastics Outpatient Department is a really interesting place to work.  We see adults and children with complex conditions, including cancer, who might require life-changing surgery.

As a Nursing Assistant you will have a great opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills.  Being welcomed as part of our happy, dynamic team you will assist the Doctors and Nurses running clinics for adults and children from Monday to Friday.  Patients come to us for their first consultation where they get their diagnosis and plan for treatment, to our pre-operation assessment clinics to ensure they are fit enough for surgery, for complex wound dressing changes following injury or surgery and for nurse-led aural (ear) care procedures.

We are a modern department based in the West Wing of the John Radcliffe Hospital. We also run clinics in Bicester, Didcot, Wallingford, Witney and Chipping Norton; you would also be required to support these once you have been through a period of Supervision.

Having a confident, outgoing, kind personality with the energy and commitment to providing great quality care, you will interact well with patients and colleagues helping the service to run smoothly and our patients to have a positive experience of their time with us having been treated with respect, dignity and compassion.

In return we will offer you training and development in order that you can deliver skills such as taking bloods, doing ECGs, and patient observations such as blood pressure.

We recognise the valuable role of the Nursing Assistant and as such the Trust has its own Nursing Assistant Academy to promote your education and development. You will start with completing The Care Certificate which consists of 15 standards which provide you with fundamental knowledge, confidence and skills to enable you to provide compassionate care to our patients unsupervised. You will receive this award at a celebratory graduation ceremony.  After this we will support your ongoing development with in-house training and opportunities to advance in the role and your nursing career.

No experience is necessary for this post, we just ask that you communicate well, have a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude and can demonstrate a real passion for the work we do.

Our working hours are from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday but we recognise life’s demands don’t always fit in with these hours and how important a work-life balance is.  As such, if you are looking to work more flexibly (i.e. shorter days, compressing your working week in to 4 days) we will try and meet your needs so please ask us about this at interview or call us for a chat.
