Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research.

The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence and its focus is on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence. These values put patients at the heart of what we do and underpin the quality healthcare we would like for ourselves or a member of our family. Watch how we set out to deliver compassionate excellence via the OUH YouTube channel.

Many of our recruitment programmes use Value Based Interviewing to identify those who have the skills we seek, who share our values and who are able to deliver compassionate excellence from the outset. We know that this makes a significant difference to your job satisfaction and above all the outcomes and experience of our patients and their families.

Are you a passionate & dedicated Operating Department Practitioner, Adult Nurse or Children’s Nurse?

Would you like to work in a fast paced environment providing specialist care to patients?

If so, we would like to hear from you (no theatre experience required).

Oxford University Hospitals Theatres (JR Main & West Wing) are looking for passionate & dedicated ODPs, Adult Nurses and Children’s Nurses to work in anaesthetics, surgery and/or recovery. We welcome staff with no theatre experience, so whether you are newly qualified or have experience from other areas, we have educational opportunities to support your development. We also support return to practice staff, no theatre experience required.

The John Radcliffe Main Operating Theatre Department has 5 theatres where routine and emergency surgery takes place. Specialties include vascular, emergencies, general, gynae, trauma orthopaedics and spinal surgery. The unit provides care for mainly adult patients and is the theatre suite for Major Trauma. The West Wing Operating Theatre Department has 14 theatres and provides specialist surgery for adults and children. Specialties are E.N.T., Ophthalmology, Neurology, Paediatric (Orthopaedics & General), Plastics and Max Fax’s surgery. We can offer both full and part time posts which will include a commitment to day / night rotation, bank holidays and weekend working with participation in an on call rota.

When staff were asked to describe their teams they said “tell them we are friendly and welcoming, we are a young team who are excellent teachers and very willing to share knowledge”

We provide a supportive learning environment which includes preceptorship (two year course), supernumerary status while achieving competencies with staff available to support in the initial phase of working solo, an in-house perioperative course, support with revalidation, leadership and career development. We have a dedicated Education team in place with a comprehensive education strategy to underpin the development of all grades of staff within theatres to facilitate career development and progression.

Oxford city and the county of Oxfordshire has a lot to offer, from the ancient city to the rolling hills of the surrounding countryside. Oxford city is the perfect mix of old and new with plenty to do such as visiting one of the many historic buildings, colleges or museums, going out for a drink or a mealtaking in a show or shopping.
