The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research.

The Trust comprises of four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton Hospital in Banbury.

Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence and its focus is on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence. These values put patients at the heart of what we do and underpin the quality healthcare we would like for ourselves or a member of our family. Watch how we set out to deliver compassionate excellence via the OUH YouTube channel.

Many of our recruitment programmes use values-based interviewing to identify those who have the skills we seek, who share our values and who are able to deliver compassionate excellence from the outset. We know that this makes a significance difference to your job satisfaction and above all the outcomes and experience of our patients and their families.

Back Care Advisor

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Trust’s Back Care Service for an experienced and motivated Nurse / Physio / Occupational Therapist to join our team as a Back Care Advisor. As a member of this friendly team, comprising back care advisors and manual handling trainers, you will be required to have demonstrable knowledge and understanding of health and safety requirements in relation to moving and handling and risk assessment within a hospital setting.

Working as part of the team you will have the ability to prioritise the challenges of a varied and dynamic daily workload. You will need strong organizational skills and the ability to multi- task in a busy environment. Good communication, interpersonal as well as teaching and training skills are essential for this post.

The post holder will be expected to advise and support unit managers, both clinical and non-clinical, providing support to Back Care Facilitators working across the Trust by giving advice and guidance on manual handling procedures at a local level. Close working with team members will be essential to ensure the provision of education and training that aligns with best practice, national guidelines and manual handling legislation. Involvement in strategic clinical developments and relevant meetings are also key requirements of this role and the team more broadly.

The Back Care Team is supportive and motivated to progress and implement new initiatives. As part of the wider Learning and Education Team, you will have access to regular supervision, ongoing support and professional development opportunities.
