Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research.

The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence and its focus is on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence. These values put patients at the heart of what we do and underpin the quality healthcare we would like for ourselves or a member of our family. Watch how we set out to deliver compassionate excellence via the OUH YouTube channel.

Many of our recruitment programmes use Value Based Interviewing to identify those who have the skills we seek, who share our values and who are able to deliver compassionate excellence from the outset. We know that this makes a significant difference to your job satisfaction and above all the outcomes and experience of our patients and their families.

Band 7 Children’s Specialist Neuromuscular Physiotherapist, Oxford University Hospitals

1 x 37.5 hours (Fixed Term Cover until early July 2020)

A new opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Children’s Physiotherapist to join our team working within the regional Children’s Neuromuscular Service, for fixed term cover. We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced physiotherapist with the ability to work with a high degree of professional autonomy. The candidate will be able to demonstrate an advanced level of physiotherapy skills and expertise specific to this speciality. The role may also extend to support children with an acute neurological condition within the Children’s Hospital as case load requires. The post holder will participate in the acute weekend and on-call rota as lone practitioner, in additional to this role.

The Oxford Children’s Therapy department is a well-established, friendly, highly motivated and enthusiastic team. Your role will involve working as part of the Children’s Therapy team with strong links across the Children’s Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre. Within the Oxford Neuromuscular service you will form part of a multi-disciplinary team providing care and treatment to children across the region and offering guidance to the wider network of clinical teams across the South-Central region.

You will be responsible for the overall service delivery of the Specialist Children’s Neuromuscular Physiotherapy Service, including the respiratory aspects of neuromuscular disease and provide physiotherapy to the Congenital Myasthenia Service, which is a Highly Specialist National Service. You will play a key role in supervising and participating in research projects, at both a national and international level.

You will have substantial relevant postgraduate experience. You will be expected to use advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide specialist assessment and treatment of complex patients as an autonomous practitioner within clinic, ward and domiciliary settings, and working alongside a multi-professional team, including consultants and care advisors. This will include working within inpatients, outpatients, clinics, annual reviews, network clinics, and homes. You will manage the Neuromuscular Physiotherapy Service and contribute towards the management of the Children’s Therapy Department to ensure high standards of care are maintained and developed.

Full-time and Part-time candidates will be considered.

The Oxford Neuromuscular Team is emerging as a centre for research and there are likely to be future opportunities for physiotherapy roles within this.
