Specialist Occupational Therapist - Band 6

Fixed-term position available - 37.5 hours per week

This exciting opportunity has arisen due to new funding for an experienced, motivated, and flexible Occupational Therapist to join the Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust Hospital Palliative Care Team, based at Sir Michael Sobell House, covering the Churchill, John Radcliffe and Nuffield hospitals. You will be working as part of a two year pilot project to improve end of life care for patients.

You will play a key role in the project, working alongside our established Occupational Therapist to help deliver high-quality compassionate palliative care within Oxford University Hospitals 

Foundation Trust.  By employing knowledge, skills and experience you will aim to improve the situation of patients with potentially life-limiting illness and to those who are important to them. You will undertake the following key roles: 

  • Provide complex assessment and interventions in a timely manner.
  • Work both autonomously and within a multi-professional team undertaking appropriate therapeutic interventions with patients aiming to reduce distressing symptoms, facilitate discharge, prevent admission, maximise independence, function and quality of life.
  • Support ward teams caring for patients with palliative care needs and provide strong role modelling to staff across the trust.
  • Work collaboratively with patients, carers, families and wider MDT colleagues.
  • Contribute to service development, audit and research.
  • Evidence based practice in this clinical area
  • Provide performance data
  • Show a commitment to education and teaching
  • The Occupational Therapist’s role will encompass care both in the hospital and at home.
  • Applicants should have a flexible attitude and well-developed interpersonal skills.

If you have a keen interest in palliative care at a Band 6 level, you will be employed as a Band 6, with the opportunity to complete Band 7 competencies and progress into a Band 7 role upon future interview.
