We are looking for an enthusiastic person, preferably with previous experience in supporting clinical trials from an administrative perspective and/or some experience with handling samples in a hospital setting, to work as an Associate Practitioner in Cellular Pathology.

The primary role is to assist our Data and Research Coordinator for clinical trials in dealing with requests to register and set up clinical trials involving services or samples from the Cellular Pathology department, collaborating with pathologists and technical staff in the department to ensure the right samples are prepared, occasionally to process study-specific samples. A confident attitude to handling data in Excel files and experience of navigating database would be highly desirable.

This is an essential role that ensures clinical trials continue to recruit patients within their time frames whilst complying with required governance requirements and will involve a mixture of:

·         Manual laboratory procedures e.g.

o   tissue embedding

o   centrifugation (e.g. processing blood samples)

o   slide labelling

·         General laboratory support duties e.g.

o   Pulling slides and blocks for review

o   Recalling cases from the off-site archive

·         Clerical style roles (maintaining the departmental specimen filing system and a significant amount of computer/paperwork)

 

To be considered for the position you must hold as a minimum one of the following: Foundation degree or equivalent and preferably a higher education qualification in a health-related subject.  Whilst the post is fixed term until 31st March, we anticipate renewal for at least 12 months.
