The Oxford University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research. The Trust comprises four hospitals – the John Radcliffe, Churchill Hospital, Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital and the Horton Hospital and also some satellite units. The Back Care Team promotes back care, a safety culture and delivers a strategy aimed at reducing muscular skeletal injuries in the Trust.

Lead Advisor: Back Care and Manual Handling

Band 7

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Trust’s Back Care Team for a highly experienced and motivated Nurse / Physio / Occupational Therapist to lead our team and deliver a core strategy for the continued development of safe handling practice and reduction of musculoskeletal injuries across the Trust.

As the clinical lead for back care, you will be highly organised with excellent communication skills and experience of managing a team, being able to prioritise varied work streams in a busy acute hospital environment.  You would be required to work collaboratively with key teams across the Trust in order to ensure manual handling practice and associated training programmes reflect best practice standards and optimal patient safety at all times.

With expert knowledge and skills in this area you will provide strategic oversight of relevant Trust policies and procedures, leading the provision of a high quality and responsive back care service, auditing compliance and engaging with key strategic meetings and research and development opportunities. Provision of clinical advice and guidance relating to manual handling practice and equipment is an essential element of this role, ensuring the back care team are able to respond to complex handling cases in a timely and effective manner.  An ability to deliver effective training programmes is a further key element of this post, leading the team in delivering a responsive and up to date programme of learning in safe manual handling practice for both clinical and non-clinical staff working across the Trust.

The Back Care Team is supportive and motivated to progress and implement new initiatives.  As part of the wider Practice Development and Education Team, you will have access to regular supervision, ongoing support and professional development opportunities.  If you have the necessary skills and abilities and would like to discuss this post further, we would be very keen to hear from you.
