The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research.

The Trust comprises of four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton Hospital in Banbury.

Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence and its focus is on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence. These values put patients at the heart of what we do and underpin the quality healthcare we would like for ourselves or a member of our family. Watch how we set out to deliver compassionate excellence via the OUH YouTube channel.

Many of our recruitment programmes use values-based interviewing to identify those who have the skills we seek, who share our values and who are able to deliver compassionate excellence from the outset. We know that this makes a significance difference to your job satisfaction and above all the outcomes and experience of our patients and their families.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Respiratory Medicine service in Oxford. We are looking for a motivated, experienced Medical Secretary to support the Sleep and Ventilation team at the Churchill Hospital. The position is for 24.0 hours per week.

The post holder will be required to co-ordinate all day to day aspects of the service, providing full administrative support to the Sleep and Ventilation service, consultants and their teams. This includes typing of correspondence, dealing with telephone enquiries, organising meetings and arranging outpatient and consultant diary appointments. Knowledge of the Trust's Electronic Patient Record System (EPR) would be an advantage but not essential as training will be given. The service uses audio transcription so excellent secretarial and typing skills are required.
The service has a large number of patients and the post holder will be expected to work closely with the MDT teams on patient pathways, service improvements and new initiatives.

This position requires the demonstration of strong organisational skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to work on your own initiative.

If you would like further information or to arrange an informal visit to the department, please contact Gina Prickett-West, Clinical Unit Manager Respiratory Medicine on 01865 572789 gina.prickett-west@ouh.nhs.uk

Applicant requirements

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.
