The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research.

The Trust comprises of four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton Hospital in Banbury.

Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence and its focus is on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence. These values put patients at the heart of what we do and underpin the quality healthcare we would like for ourselves or a member of our family. Watch how we set out to deliver compassionate excellence via the OUH YouTube channel.

Many of our recruitment programmes use values-based interviewing to identify those who have the skills we seek, who share our values and who are able to deliver compassionate excellence from the outset. We know that this makes a significance difference to your job satisfaction and above all the outcomes and experience of our patients and their families.

Discharge Lounge - Churchill Hospital

Band 5– Full Time

This is an exciting opportunity to become a part of a new nurse led discharge lounge on the Churchill site. We expect this to enhance the patient journey by providing a safe and comfortable environment for those patients who are medically fit to leave hospital but who are waiting completion of discharge arrangements or transport. The lounge will also support timely patient flow and efficient use of our acute inpatient beds supporting local, trust and national targets.

As a Band 5 Staff Nurse you will cover the discharge lounge 6 days a week. You will be instrumental in the safe, efficient and smooth running of the lounge, maximising its use and in the absence of the manager will attend site bed meetings twice a day to predict and manage discharges. You will also be responsible for arranging all that is needed to ensure a safe patient discharge, whilst looking after patients in a comfortable environment.

It is essential that you are familiar with the discharge process in hospitals including the electronic patient record system. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively and innovatively to maximise the use of this new service will be important.

The Discharge Lounge will be open 8am-8pm Monday-Saturday, the shifts available would be Early Shift 08:00-14:30, Late Shift 14:00-20:00 and Day Shift 08:00-20:00.

Closing date for applications: 28th May 2018
