The John Radcliffe hospital is a regional Trauma and Vascular centre, and also provides expertise and excellence in Neurosurgery, Spinal, Craniofacial, Plastics, ENT, and Paediatric surgery. The operating theatres offer a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and are a base for education, training and research. The John Radcliffe theatres represent a dynamic centre on which to build upon clinical experience and professional development.

The Trust is looking for proactive, highly motivated Operating Department Practitioners (ODP) and Nurses for scrub or anaesthetic / recovery roles. Any prospective applicant will require good interpersonal skills and the enthusiasm to learn, in order to provide specialised assistance in these clinical specialities. The candidate should also relish working within a productive multidisciplinary team. The ability to assess, plan and implement care for perioperative patients will need to be demonstrated. You will be required to work collaboratively to promote the delivery of evidence based patient care.

You may be based on one site but there is an expectation for you to be deployed as required. A flexible attitude is required to accommodate the surgical requirements of each department. Full time & Part Time posts are available which includes a commitment to day / night rotation, Bank Holiday and weekend working and participation in an On Call rota.

The TASS directorate is made up of 3 departments:
• JR Main theatres - emergency, trauma, vascular & spinal surgery;
• West Wing theatre - neurosurgery, spinal, craniofacial, plastics, ENT, and paediatric surgery;
• Horton theatre (Banbury) – gynae, urology, trauma, ophthalmics, ENT, plastics, day case surgery.

Whether you are newly qualified or experienced, we have educational opportunities to support your development. The directorate has a comprehensive education strategy in place to underpin the development of all grades within theatres to facilitate career progression. We endeavour to provide a supportive learning environment which includes preceptorship, supernumerary status while achieving competencies, an in-house perioperative course and leadership development.

All John Radcliffe Hospital based Theatres post are now managed via a centralised process. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an assessment day on Thursday 1st June 2017 which will be held at West Wing Theatres John Radcliffe. You will undergo Technical and Values based Interviews and a Drug calculation and Documentation Assessment as well as having the opportunity to meet prospective managers.
