Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research.

The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

Our values, standards and behaviours define the quality of clinical care we offer and the professional relationships we make with our patients, colleagues and the wider community. We call this Delivering Compassionate Excellence and its focus is on our values of compassion, respect, learning, delivery, improvement and excellence. These values put patients at the heart of what we do and underpin the quality healthcare we would like for ourselves or a member of our family. Watch how we set out to deliver compassionate excellence via the OUH YouTube channel.

Many of our recruitment programmes use Value Based Interviewing to identify those who have the skills we seek, who share our values and who are able to deliver compassionate excellence from the outset. We know that this makes a significant difference to your job satisfaction and above all the outcomes and experience of our patients and their families.

·         Are you an experienced registered nurse with acute surgical experience or would like experience on a surgical ward?

·         Are you motivated with strong values, organised with excellent interpersonal and communication skills?

·         Do you like a challenge and want to develop your nursing skills with the support of a surgical development program?

If so then we want to hear from you!

The Surgical Directorate requires highly motivated and enthusiastic newly qualified or established registered nurses who would like to work within our friendly and fast paced Elective surgical Wards.  The Oxford Upper Gastrointestinal Centre is a 20 bedded ward caring for patients having undergone Oesophagogastric, Hepatobiliary and Endocrine surgery. The Jane Ashley/Colorectal Centre is a 20 bedded ward caring for patients who have undergone colorectal surgery, and women undergoing breast and gynaecological surgery.

The trusts run a preceptorship program for new nursing staff where you are guided in how to develop your role. Once you have completed your foundation program and achieved your mentorship qualification both wards have clinical educators to support and guide you through these courses as well as supporting you on the ward.

To help you develop your career within the Surgical Directorate we offer you the prospect of a rotating between our elective departments. This is an amazing opportunity to develop yourself as a surgical ward in a supported environment.

If you are passionate about making a difference to the lives of the people who use our services, and those who care for them and want to contribute to an organization which is continuously striving to improve then we would love to hear from you.

Applicants need to be well organized with a professional & approachable manner & have excellent communication skills. They should have a sensitive approach to people and have excellent team work skills. Previous experience would be an advantage; however training will be given to the successful candidate. You will receive an annual appraisal and a personal development plan to enable you to have structure within your role.
